Life can feel overwhelming sometimes, right? We all crave stability and meaning. The question is, where are we looking for it?
Consider the story of young women who left their homes to join ISIS, searching for purpose and belonging. It’s an extreme example, but it shows how far people will go to find something solid to stand on. Many of us do the same—turning to relationships, careers, or success to define us. Yet, these things often leave us empty.
At Hope Church of Powell, we believe there’s a better way. True identity and purpose are found in Christ.
John the Baptist: A Life on Solid Ground
John the Baptist shows us what it looks like to live with clarity and purpose. When asked who he was, John didn’t boast or pretend. He knew exactly who he wasn’t—and who he was in light of Jesus.
John’s mission was simple: point people to Christ. He boldly declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). His confidence came from knowing that his identity and purpose were rooted in something far greater than himself.
Your Identity in Christ
Like John, our identity starts with two truths:
We are unworthy. On our own, we fall short.
We are deeply loved. Through Jesus, God calls us His own.
When we stop striving to prove ourselves and rest in Christ’s love, life changes. We’re no longer chasing worth—we’re living in the security of God’s grace.
What’s Your Purpose?
Your purpose, like John’s, is to point others to Jesus. And here’s the thing: sharing the gospel requires words. It’s not just about living a good life—it’s about actively telling others about who Jesus is and what He has done for us. At Hope Church of Powell, we encourage everyone to pray for two people who need Jesus and look for opportunities to speak about His love and grace.
Here’s the truth: Jesus is the solid ground you’ve been looking for. His sacrifice gives us a new identity and purpose, one that lasts forever.
So, what are you building your life on?
