Have you ever felt like an outcast? Like you didn’t belong, like others viewed you as different, or even unworthy? If so, you are not alone. Many of us have experienced feelings of exclusion, whether because of our background, past mistakes, or even our faith.
The story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman in John 4:1-42 is a powerful reminder that Jesus seeks out the outcasts and offers them something greater—a new life, new worship, and a new purpose. At Hope Church Powell, we believe that Jesus' love and redemption is for everyone.
New Life: Jesus Offers Salvation to All (John 4:1-15)
As Jesus traveled through Samaria, He came across a woman at Jacob’s well. This woman was not only a Samaritan—despised by Jews—but she also carried a past filled with sin and brokenness. Yet, Jesus did not avoid her. Instead, He engaged her in conversation and offered her “living water”—a metaphor for eternal life.
Just like this woman, many of us search for fulfillment in temporary things—relationships, careers, material possessions—but ultimately, we remain thirsty. Jesus offers something greater: a life transformed by His grace and truth.
New Worship: A Relationship with the Living God (John 4:16-26)
Jesus didn’t just offer the woman new life; He also revealed to her a new way to worship. Worship is not about location or rituals but about the heart. He said, “The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23)
At Hope Church Powell, we strive to cultivate genuine worship that is not about performance or tradition. No matter your background, Jesus invites you into a personal relationship where worship becomes a way of life.
New Harvest: Sharing the Good News (John 4:27-42)
After encountering Jesus, the Samaritan woman immediately left her water jar behind and went to tell others. Her testimony led many in her town to believe in Jesus. This shows us that when we truly experience Christ, we cannot keep it to ourselves—we are called to share this hope with others.
Hope Church Powell is committed to being a church that reaches out to the lost, the broken, and the searching. We believe that every person has a role in God’s harvest. Whether through sharing your story, serving others, or inviting someone to church, you have a purpose in God’s mission.
