Jesus is Better: Finding True Healing, Rest, and Salvation

If you are wondering about the church meeting at Powell High School, we invite you to join us as we explore the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. This week, we reflected on John 5:1-18, where Jesus performs a miraculous healing and teaches us about true rest and salvation.

The Search for Hope in the Wrong Places

In the passage, we find a disabled man who had been suffering for 38 years. He waited by the pool of Bethesda, hoping for healing through a superstition. When Jesus approached him and asked, “Do you want to be healed?” (v.6), the man’s response revealed his hopelessness. Rather than expressing faith, he complained about his inability to reach the water first.

This man’s story resonates with us today. When life gets hard, we often turn to empty solutions. Some people rely on superstitions, believing that saying the right prayer or following a ritual will bring them blessings. Others seek relief in distractions like social media, entertainment, or even destructive habits. Some believe that strict religious rule-following will earn them favor with God.

But Jesus shows us that He alone is our true source of healing, salvation, and rest.

Jesus, the Merciful Healer

Despite the man’s lack of faith, Jesus healed him instantly (v.8-9). This was not a “faith healing” but a grace healing—a demonstration of Jesus’ mercy. The man did nothing to deserve it, but Jesus healed him anyway.

This story reminds us that Jesus is not limited by our doubts or failures. He is full of mercy and compassion, ready to heal and restore us when we turn to Him.

True Rest: Jesus and the Sabbath

The healing took place on the Sabbath, which angered the religious leaders. They were more concerned with their rules than with the well-being of people (v.10-12). Jesus challenged their misunderstanding of the Sabbath, showing that true rest is not about religious regulations but about finding peace in Him.

Today, we no longer observe the Sabbath as the Jews did, but we do set aside Sunday—the Lord’s Day—for worship and rest. Gathering with other believers, such as at at Powell High School, helps us remember that Jesus is our ultimate rest.

Jesus is Always Working

When confronted by the Jewish leaders, Jesus made a bold statement: “My Father is working until now, and I am working” (v.17). This was a declaration of His divinity. Just as God continually sustains the universe, Jesus is always at work, upholding us and offering salvation.

Many people today seek spiritual experiences or religious systems that promise blessings, but true salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. He is not just a teacher or miracle worker—He is God in the flesh.

Find Rest and Healing in Jesus

If you’ve been searching for peace, healing, or purpose, don’t look to superstitions, distractions, or mere religious rule-following. Look to Jesus. He is merciful, He offers true rest, and He is always at work.

If you’re searching for a church , we welcome you to join us this Sunday at Powell High School. Come and experience the life-changing power of Jesus. Let’s worship, grow, and find rest in Him together.
